About

Join Our League

Carolina Broomball is a adult recreational co-ed league in the Charlotte area. We make every effort to maintain a league that is competitive enough for advanced players, yet recreational enough for beginners to enjoy it. You must be 18 years of age to participate.

What is Broomball?

Broomball is a sport played on ice, and follows most hockey rules. The biggest differences are the shoes, the stick and the ball. Instead of skates, broomball is played with “broomball shoes” which are essentially sneakers with a thick rubber sponge-like sole that provides a surprisingly good grip on the ice. The stick, or “broom”, is essentially an aluminum lacrosse shaft with a triangular rubber mallet head at the end. The ball is an air-filled hard rubber ball that is slightly smaller than a soccer ball. It’s a great sport that lets you get a cardio workout while meeting great new people in the area!

What do I need?

You will need a helmet with a full cage or mask, broomball shoes and a broomball stick. The following equipment is highly recommended: Gloves, shin guards, knee pads, and elbow pads. We have extra equipment available to borrow for a game!

Where and When?

The Carolina Broomball League meets at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, NC.  We have a Spring season (Jan-May) and a Fall season (Sep-Dec) with games on Monday nights at 9:10 PM and 9:55 PM.  Between seasons we have pickup games on Mondays nights from 9:00 PM – 10:30 PM.  There may also be some random pickup nights thrown in there during the season.  Check the calendar for upcoming pickup events.  If you are interested in trying broomball out, please fill out the contact page and one of our team members will get you set up to play at the next pickup game!
